Do they protect the steering wheel? Do they do more harm than good?

I can't speak from personal experience, but I've read posts by members who have them, advising they are a quality high end alternative to replacing the wheel. Good protection as well as a nice look.

I really liked the look when I got mine and the feel is nice too. The rather intricate stitch to properly install it took more time than the usual stitch but it has never come loose.

The only harm that I can see is that it would make it more difficult to put some kind of conditioner on the wheel itself which might lead to cracking of the material covering the wheel.

If we're talking about the "wrap" that goes over your existing steering wheel, then I'd stay away. I've never seen one that looks good. Perhaps that's because the alternatives like the Vette Essentials and/or Caravaggio look completely factory, and the Wheelskins look slapped on I'm basing this thought on the look of the stitching toward the bottom of the wheel where it has to stretch around the two lower "spokes").

What exactly are you "protecting" your wheel from anyway?

Thanks to all for your comments. Just trying to save my wheel from every day wear. Over time, they look pretty crappy.

I've had one on my other car for about 4 years--looks good and has held up well. Plus I like the feel of a thicker wheel...

Probably will put one on the Vette this summer.

Here is one that looks pretty good. Mine. My husband did a terrific install. A great alternative at under $40 as to spending $300 and giving them your old steering wheel to get a price break. I donot want to mess with the airbag either. If it looks bad over time, get another. When I started to mod the car's interior, a friend told me just be able to put it back OEM JUST in case you might want to sell the car. I have kept every single thing that has come off my car along with the boxes the new mods came in. This way, I can put it all back and resell the mods on Ebay! What a great choice. I have treated the wheelskin with leather conditioner and it looks and feels top quality. Your steering wheel underneath should be just fine as is. Hope my picture helps...

got the same as above I love it ,to make it look good you gotta carry the stitching around the spokes instead of missing the holes, looks way better in person

Who sells these wheel skins in different colors? I am looking for one that is two tone black/blue (nassau). I have seen several places that sell them, but only in red, yellow, ect. I have never seen the orange, like posted above. Can someone who has one tell where they got theirs. Thanks

You hit the nail on the head. I took mind off for that exact reason. Looked like crap around the spokes of the wheel. Plus, I have short fingers and it made the wheel fell too large and wasn't comfortable.

I'm planning on getting one for my Mazda truck. The reason is the original leather on the steering wheel is worn out ... I bought the truck used and it was perfect, other than the steering wheel cover. The guy either had very rough hands our wore dirty gloves when driving.

My Vette steering wheel still looks factory perfect.

I don't like the unfinished look, especially around the spokes of the wheel. I do have one for the DD, but only VE for the Vette...

Peace
