Hey all, i have purchased the B&B Bullets and i was curious about the install. How high do i have to get my car off the ground to get these puppies installed, and what exactly does that entail as far as tools? Hopefully i can get/build anything i need while my exhaust is on the way here. I'm hoping to find a very cheap, easy, effective solution with out spending a bunch of money on expensive ramps and or equipment... thanks.
I can't help specific to the B&B, but here's a post with some embedded links concerning getting the C5 up to do a R&R on the exhaust. Hope this is helpful. Sounds like you'll need to get it up about 3".
That other post has some good info. Well if you want to cut your stock exhaust off then you don't have to get the car 3 feet into the air. And that's also if the BBs comes in sections. Then you can do it just on jack stands.
when I put the TIs on my 97 I first tried to rig the jacks to reach 3 feet with wood and anything else I could find. But I backed out, it's just too dangerous. It's better just to pay for an hours worth of labor.
from what i've read you only have to jack the car waaay up to get the old exhaust off so if you cut your old exhaust off you don't need to pick the car up that far.... the new exhaust should be 2 piece
Is your stock exhaust worth anything???
YEs , the resale value of your B&Bs.
Many next owners do not want an after market exhause or at least want to select their own.
I kept my stock exhaust to put back on when I eventually sell my Vert
Good point. I regretted getting rid of the factory exhaust on my eclipse, cause when i traded it in, the new exhaust doesn't add value, but woulda had resale value...
Thing is, with this car... I'm never getting rid of it... ever... It's the first year Chevy made the C5 and to me it has a huge value. When my dad was my age, he had a late 60's early 70's(i don't remember...) Mach 1, but sold it when he got married... he regrets it to this day... i do not plan on repeating that mistake... so i'll buy a whole different car before i sell/trade this one...
Here's my take... If you want to retain the stock system in one piece but concerned about raising the vehicle about 3' then bring it to a shop. If you have a coupe, the stock mufflers will fit in the hatch area without a problem. This will enable you to bring the new system unboxed in the hatch area and then allow you to bring the old system back home after. Be sure to bring some blankets or towels if going this route to prevent scratching or hitting the glass if going this route.
I paid $50 for a local shop to swap my stock system with a set of TI's. Keep in mind that the TI's are one unit which take less time to install than other aftermarket units which are sectional.
If you are set on installing them yourself than just cut the old system in pieces so it can be removed with minimal clearance. If the B&Bs are sectional like GHL and others than you shouldn't need any additional clearance in addition to what a set of standard jack stands can bring.
Keep in mind that you can always get a stock set from someone here if you need one in the future. I have seen then go for free but you will probably have to pay for shipping.
