Default Fixing a crack

I have a 2 inch crack just below my drivers side turn signal. Even though C5s bodies are made of that weird composite plastic, should Bondo still be used for body work? Is there something else I should get? Anybody have any other suggestion on how to fix this thing. Any info is much appreciated!

You can repair it with normal marine/auto fiberglass & resin. I would lay some matt on the back, and then some resin on the front followed by rage gold body filler. sanding of course.

I dont think that area would flex much, so the fiberglass should be fine. the matting on the back would help to prevent flexing and keep the joint solid.

Don't flame me if I'm wrong but I remember many moons ago seeing a plastic filler product in PepBoys and Autozone just for fixing this type of problem. I can't find it on their websites right now.. but then again, it's hard finding anything on their sites that they aren't pushing as a special deal.

Like divvinit said, fiberglass will work (use marine grade matt) but it's not as flaexible as the plastic filler/repair.

Bondo or similar products would be too rigid, IMHO.

Really? I'll try and stop by Autozone and take a look. Thanks for the info!

Here's what GM recommends (see GM section)http://www.lord.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1154

But do a google search on SMC repair-you might want to rethink just using resin. Even in the old vette days, you had to matt the back, crind the crack out, matt over the top, then use fiberglass bonding filler to fix a crack so it would not reappear. I've fixed many Vettes and Motorcycle fairings this way with great success. I use the right angle weave matt on the backside and the random weave on the outside for regular fiberglass repairs. SMC has different procedures and materials.

Interesting site Doug. Thanks for the link. All of the products on there are sorta overwhelming. I'll have to do some research and figure out which one I need. I've done a decent share of body work but never on a Vette. However the dealership wants 1K to fix a 2 inch crack and a few scratches. Anyone else have anything to add? Thanks!
