First, I would like to say hello to all. This is my first post and hopefully there will be more to follow as I am looking to purchase a used Corvette. I have a question about vette values. What affect on the value of a used vette does damage have. If a door skin was professionally replaced due to a bang and there are no signs of damage now. The owner was up front about the damage and provided the invoice of the repair. The damage was paid out of pocket and there is nothing reported on a Carfax. I know if this car was at a dealership, I would have never known that there was previous damage but the owner was up front and honest when I asked.
I would buy it if the price was right. If he was honest about something you would'nt have known, he probably is honest about everything else. It sounds like the guy selling the car "knows the car' and is being up front when he does not have to be. I will assure you, a car lot would not do the same. I have bought and sold over 40 cars and will never buy a new one. You can get a used vehicle and save $$$$ if you do your homework. Let someone else take the beating not you. A new car is worth thousands on paper, but once driven off the lot, it's just another used car. An average new C6 will cost you around 55k, you can get a low milage C6 for around 45k, do the math, they are both used once they peal the sticker off of it!
I say if you can't tell and the work was done by a competent body shop then buy it.
Mine has had $12k worth of damage (entire drivers side) but it was all just fiberglass damage, no frame. I'm sure a good body man might be able to tell it's not original but you and I sure can't. The first clue would probably be the lack of factory orange peel in the paint. The paint is way better than OEM since they color sanded between coats. I personally feel like the car is in better than new condition. I'm sure I'll sell it someday but when I do I'll be 100% honest and even give the new owner pics to prove the damage.

I wouldn't be concerned as long as there was no other damage to the car and the repair was not noticable. In this case, I would suspect that the value would not be decreased by much if any at all.
