Default Telescopic Steering Wheel Question

Can someone please post the sequence on how to reprogram the telescopic steering wheel on my 2000' C5.
I just picked up my car from the shop and I don't want to have to bring it into the Dealer to reprogram the telescopic steering.
Someone Please Help Me Out.

What reprogramming are you talking about? The retraction when you remove the key? The telescoping when you unlock the car and put the key in? Both are in the Owners Manual.

Look for the Easy Exit procedure in the owner's manual.

Ah! I had this happen to me. The steering column went in and wouldn't come out. What you do is. Push the button to make it go in about 8 times. When you are doing this listen to it. About the 6th to 8th time you push it you'll hear a small clunk. After you hear this clunk hold the button in the out position until the column comes out. It can take 4 of 5 seconds to do so. Let it come out all the way. Then push the button again to go back in and let it go all the way. What you are doing here is reprogramming the stop points. Patches told me this 2 years ago and saved me a trip to the dealership. Let me know if it works for you.

Do I first have to put the key in the ON position?
Does the car have to be running?

I just tried the sequence of 6-8 pushes in with the key in the ON position, with the key in Accessory, and with the key out and nothing works.
I didn't hear any clunk sound.
Any other suggestions? I really don't want to go to the dealer.

I dont see anything in my manual except that push the button in to retract and push the button out to extend. I went through the whole manual page by page twice and I dont see anything on reprogramming the telescopic steering wheel.

I know the manual doesn't have anything on this. Try pushing the button forward as many times as it takes to hear the clunk. If you don't after many tries. Just hold it in the extend position for 5 to 15 seconds and see if it comes out by itself.

Please tell me if I do this with the key in the ignition or not.

Yes! I am pretty sure it should be in the on position but if that doesn't work try all positions with the key in the ignition. Man I wish Patches was around. I'll go out to my car and try it again.

I just went out to my car and did it without the key in the ignition. It took 6 times pushing the button to the retract position and then it clunked. Then hold the button in the extend position till it comes out. So car unlocked as though you are entering your car but no key in the ignition.

Thanks for going out to your car and checking for me.
However, I am having no luck with any of the sequences.
This is really discouraging and I hope I can figure this out so I dont have to go to the dealer and waste a whole day.

That sucks. Have you been doing anything in the car that may have caused a wire to come loose or blown fuse? I've had stuff like this happen and as a last resort I'll disconnect the battery for a 1/2 hour or go for a coffee and reconnect it and it works. Computers are like that when they get confused. Worth a shot.

Default Telescopic steering wheel gone wild

I just got my 01 coupe out of the body shop where they disconnected the battery. Now, every time I step on the brake pedal or activate a turn signal, the wheel fully extends. Nerve-wracking during a turn!!! I tried the "8 times" method and got no change. So its off to the dealer to have them correct the problem they caused.

Default Telescoping Steering Reset

Try the reset sequence again, and make sure the driver's door is closed tight when you do it.
