Default First track trip...

Went to Houston Raceway. Mods are DR's and zip-tye..

My best run-

60'- 1.761
1/8- 7.780
mph- 91.64
1/4- 12.054
mph- 115.08

I'm kinda bummed I didn't hit 11's, but we didn't get the cold front I was looking for and the weather kinda sucked. 80ish with ~70% humidity.

The DA worked out to 2033' around the time of my best run, so corrected it comes to this-

Density Altitude = 2033 feet ET MPH
Uncorrected 12.05 @ 115.1
Corrected 11.78 @ 117.73
It's supposed to be great weather Sunday, so I may stick around Houston and run then. I think I can get well into the 11's in better air..

I hit a bunch of 12.1-12.2's, and a few slower than that. I'm not as consistent on my launch as I would like to be...

I tried a bunch of different launch techniques, but a fast release at 4k seemed to produce the best results. I got a couple of 1.7x 60's that way..

The 305 Nittos grabbed well. All of my bad launches were bogs..

Also I noted that this car loses a noticeable amount of power when the coolant temp is over 210 or so.

I was losing 3-4mph when I hot lapped the car.

My LS1 C5 was bad about this too..

Nice 60 ft!

So it was rev to 4K...drop clutch...wheelspin...than modulate until hookup?

Did you do full burnouts?

Those are good times, jlking.

Best power with a stock PCM will be had when the water temp is at 190-194 when staged. So a cool down period is beneficial if the goal is fast times.

I set the air pressure at 16psi.

Then I drove around the water and backed into it, and did a full burnout in 2nd gear until I saw lots of smoke.

I didn't outright drop the clutch out of concern for the drivetrain, I kind of rode it and feathered the gas right at the point when the car started to move, but I was fully engaged within a few feet. I have to drive this thing 200 miles back home. I would call it a "fast release", and not a straight dump.

The track and tires were hooking hard, and there was no spinning whatsoever.

I bogged quite a few runs.

I've ran quite a few cars on the track on DR's, and this one tends to bog more if you don't get it just right.

I talked to another stock Z06 owner on DR's, and he was leaving at 5k and spinning. He said his best was a 12.9x with a 2.2 60'. I don't know if he was at full psi, or driving through the water or what. I didn't see him run.

I encountered the "soft clutch" problem on my runs, and I was grinding 4th on some powershifts.

I read up a bunch on it last night, and I am gonna start with changing the fluid today.

Thanks.

Your notes are going to save me a lot of "trial and error" wear and tear. Thanks for sharing.

I was just looking at your launch notes, and had I reveiwed those before I left, that would have saved me some experimenting.

My best launches were pretty much dead on with your post. I think I was probably leaving a little softer on the initial leave with some clutch slip to spare the drivetrain.

I think the thing I need the most work on is shift points.

The revs come up pretty fast, and I'm gun shy of hitting the limiter. It almost seems that my tach may be off as it seems to be hitting the limiter at an indicated 6300-6400. I need to pay more attention.

I was going more by sound and feel than watching the tach and I think I was short shifting it on some runs.

On a strong launch where the rpms explode upward when the clutch is released, the tac lags actual-rpms in first gear and by less in 2d gear, but is dead on in 3d.

I go by feel in first and 2d and watch the tac in 3d.

Best power (under the curve) will occur if the shifts are made as high as possible without kissing the limiter.

The clutch fluid was nearly black and had debris in it, just like some of you guys have suggested in other threads.

I had to fill the resivor three times and remove the fluid to completely flush it out.

I made a few runs and the clutch still goes soft on it after a run through the gears.

F' it.. If it goes, then I have an excuse to upgrade.

I'm heading back to the track tomorrow since I'm already in the area.

If the forecast are accurate, then the DA should be around 200.

That should help me hit 11's, along with cool off periods and a more consistent launch.

It's only .06 of a second, but it's driving me nuts that I missed it.

I was trying to get into the 11's with 35psi (maintaing "street" psi condition) I had a bet with a buddy who said I would need to decrease PSI...I lost the bet, ran a 12.04 @118.9, that was my best run, the others were 12.3 - 12.1 with 1.823 the best 60 foot i could muster.
