Fuel door release
Just letting you guys know incase someone else has this problem I fixed the release button on the weekend.
It was actually the electrical plug that pushes into the back of the switch, since the console had been out they hadn't pushed the plug right in until it clicked and I can see this can be a problem, very tight fit under there.

I fought with that the first time I took the console out. The wire is very short.
For future reference, you don't have to disconnect it in order to get the radio bezel out. Disconnect everything else and slide the armrest piece all the way back. With a bit of care, you can now get out the radio bezel. It may help to open up the door on the armrest.

Glad you got it fixed without any major expense. Sometimes its the little things that can be the culprit.
