The C5 has a very sophisticated suspension if you can use it. A good driver in a 944 can beat someone in a C6 Z06. I've been passed by lesser cars and I've passed GT-3s, it's the driver. Having said that, I have no doubt that an expert driver would lap faster in a C5 than a 944.

The 914s or the 914-6 with slight mod's to suspension turn and handle very well. The light body and mid engine make the car very stable at most speeds. The problem is stopping at high speed. The 914 braking system sucks. I used to own a 914-GT with a flat 6cyl and also a 914s with the 4 cyl. The 6cyl was a blast to drive but both were very quick.
Put a small cam larger 44mm delorto carbs and do some tuning and you have a very fast toy

Being European Sports Car Club President locally for two years, this post interested me. I owned a Porsche Boxster S at this time. I can tell you it would not out run the Vette straight, but when it comes to twisties, a mid engine car like that, will do it. However, a member had a 944 that I really never cared for. Great plaid interior though... Here is a website on the 944 I found and from reading some of the info., got a kick out of the highlights. Might check on if she has any of these problems. If so. Piece of cake.

944 Info. On Buying>

"Overheating? always ask for a test drive 944s do have a habit of blowing head gaskets! before you set off on your test drive check the oil cap for traces of water sludge also any oil leaks around the head block should be a cause of concern! also check the radiator for any signs of repair or damage.

Once you have test driven the car Let the engine Idle and keep a eye on the tempature gauge, If the fan kicks in around the half to just under the 3/4 mark then this is acceptable over the 3/4 mark then start to worry? Ok it may only be a faulty coolant thermostat or sensor but normally these last for years so ask the question when were they last replaced?

Some owners wire up the fan to the Ignition so the thing stays on throughout the drive, you may find this common practice especially with older models or when used in hot countrys.

Oil gauge If this is faulty then walk away from the sale In the early days of buying 944s I came across one seller who said the oil gauge was only faulty and their was no need to be concerned I bought the thing and 2 weeks later the block blew faced with a large repair bill I decided It was cheaper to buy another one and keep this one for spares! Lesson learned?

Heres a list of common faults that many second hand buyers can expect to be faulty
Wings rusting
Air conditioning
Window switches worn contacts
Rear hatch brackets
Dashboard cracking
Leaking radiator
Steering rack worn (as the 944 is not fitted with a towing hook some people use the rack to pull the car back from a breakdown?)"

914 will lose in every aspect. I've owned them both. The C5 will even run circles around a 944 turbo had that as well.
