Default The Grond Chronicles : Supercharger Install Part I [Dialup, you know the script]

So it been 5 months since I bought the ECS Paxton supercharger kit. Initially, the master plan was to wait until I bought my new 412ci forged LS2, 8 rib pulleys, ECS fuel and alky system along with my new LQ9 heads and Godzilla cam.

Well, the LS2 is on hold for a few months but I can't wait anymore for boost. So I've decided to install it on my current big cammed LS1 and see what happens.

I started the tear down this afternoon but it will be a while before it is completed - probably a week or so. The actual install could be done in one day but I am in no rush and I love working on Grond (isn't that obvious?).

So without further ado, here are the pics.

EG

UPDATE : Video - ECS Paxton supercharger installed and running in Grond

Teaser video - size is 12 megabytes. Enjoy

As always, getting this slammed bad boy airborne always takes a while - usually about 30 minutes or so.

Started by removing my beloved Blackwing with cold air shroud and cold air mod. This complete cold air system (as pictured) is now for sale, BTW.

Let's start getting stuff removed.

The bars on the left are the factory, the bars on the right are the ECS custom setup

Everything is out of the way

Next, the demon rack needs to be removed

And then replace the crank pulley and pin it.

Also noticed you have the stock main pulley? I thought you had the aftermarket ATI or something pulley installed a while back?

I had a ATI underdrive pulley that I sold a few months ago and installed a stock pulley. I have a new ATI Superdamper pulley (stock sized) that will be installed with the blower

On my own, no big deal. Chris (Stangkiller) will be giving me a hand when he can, but he has exams right now.

FYI,

It may just be under high boost but when we tried an aftermarket balancer it starting snapping belts in combination with a 2.75 pulley. Just too much for an 8 rib but Doug has a something to see if it will hold.

Went back to running a stock balancer and a 3.0 pulley and she pulls like a freight train and the belt stays put. We are pulling 13-14 lbs of boost with this set up and running deep into the 9s.

Not sure but if you don't intend to go high boost you may be OK. The safe play is the stock balancer and pulley combo. Doug can help here when he gets back from Sin City.

Keep posting - we're waiting and watching.

I will be running the restrictor plate and low boost on my current LS1, Alan. Nothing above 7psi until I get the forged LS2

Wow Stephen, and yet another major project in the works!..
You can probably tear one down and put it back together blindfolded by now!
Good luck with the install....
