Do this with your eyes open. The stock 12 disk player won't play computer burned CDs - they skip like crazy. If you are fortunate enough to have wiring in the deep well (if it's there, it's obviously there), use it to hook up an aftermarket changer or an iPod. You'll be a lot happier. GM really booted it on this one. I pulled the stock changer player out of my '03 Anniversary Edition, and got a plug and play iPod adapter that took about 10 minutes to install from Crutchfield. I'll never look back.

mine played burned CD's (that's all I used to put in it).
It only skipped when I hit really big bumps.
and if the car didn't come from the factory with a CD changer, then there is no harness in the rear.
I agree that it's better to either add an iPOD or satellite radio to the car rather than installing the factory CD Changer.
I added a factory 12 disk changer to my Pace Car, and 3 years later I'm now using the harness to interface my satellite radio into the factory radio.

If the harness is there you're good, but unless you can find a bargain on the changer, after market is your best bet.
I put a 12 disk changer in mine a few months ago and it plays computer burned CDs just fine. no probs.
My 98 came with the speaker plug but no control plug so I had to wire in the control. I had to buy the harness and the mounting kit and got the changer and cartridge at a real good price right here in the C5 parts section.
I think your model year came with both plugs so you just have to order the cable and mounting kit.
As for MP3 interface, I am going to wire mine into the changer harness with some home brew electronics to switch between the changer and the IPOD.
I am not sure but there may be another aux input in the head unit, but I have to check the scitzomatics first.

I never put my original CD's in the car. I always burn mine using the cheapest blanks I can find and I've never had a problem. My factory 12disc plays all the computer burned cd's. It won't play MP3's so you'll have to figure that one out yourself. It's easy to add the wire. It only took me about 30 minutes.

I think most (maybe not all) will play computer burned CDs, as long as they were burned in music CD format as opposed to MP3 format. The difference is 14-18 songs versus 100's.

Thanks everyone, I do think Satellite Radio might be my choice, I do know that my stock radio sucks, it's forever skipping so thanks for all your info. Tommy
Do all Vettes have the wires in the trunk to add the 12 disk player?
I have a 2003 EB vert and I would like to add the 12 pack player.
Thanks
If it didn't have a changer, the front to rear harness will not be there. There will be two plugs in the pass side footwell, as shown above. The harness connects to these. See this link for my and two other reviews of the process. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/revi...2&cat=4&page=1
Mine has no problems playing home-burned CDs, although ones that have been in there a long time in the heat do start to sound bad.
The easiest way to check on wiring presence is to look at the stock headunit. If you have a CD/AUX button on it, then you probably have the wiring from the headunit to the passenger footwell. No AUX button, no wiring - you will have to buy a connecter that plugs in the back of the headunit. If you do not have a factory-installed CD changer, then you will not have the Corvette-Harness (COR-HAR) that connects to the two plugs in the passenger footwell and runs to the rear center compartment. They are readily available, just run a Google search on the term "COR-HAR".
Just my opinion but I would put your money in an Ipod! I have a CD changer and it skips..Alot. I'm taking it out once I get the Ipod.
I agree.
Consider an Ipod. The stock 12-disc CD is mediocre at best. It skips and have problems with CD-R discs. An Ipod nano + adaptor should almost cost the same, plus you got portability of it when away from the C5.
