It's most pronounced in high gears while applying throttle. IE: 6th gear at low RPM's and giving it throttle.
The sound appears to come from right outside the driver's door when I'm driving. Maybe a little behind it. That's probably not the origin, but that's how I perceive it.
It sounds like a metallic rattling/buzz. It's not loud. Is this something in the drivetrain? Anything to worry about?
If the noise is something that also occurs when CAGS forces the 1st to 4th shift at low RPM's I think that is normal (although not a good normal). I hear similar sound in those situations and I suspect its shifting at slightly too low a speed where the engine just doesn't quite have enough torque under the situation. I try to avoid shifting too early and to make sure the RPM's will at least be 1000 -1200 minimum after the shift.

I would say either take it to your dealer or stop flooring it from a low RPM in 6th. 6th is not a pulling gear.
most of em rattle at differnt speeds, mine actually has a harmonic at around 1200 rpm, I'm pretty sure its the exhaust. Been doin it for 20K miles so I aint worried.
What kind of sound? a wrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, piiiiiiiiiiiiiiing, clickity clicccccccccccccccck.................. Alls I can hear on mine is the Vrrrrrroooooooooooom vroom!

My guess is its the sound of the fuel pumps trying figure out how to idle in 6th at 35mph

Your description lends me to believe what you're hearing is nothing more than the normal drivetrain sounds most any vehicle will make when one is lugging the engine. Manual transmissions are more prone because there is a direct mechanical link through the transmission. In automatics, the torque converter allows the engine to speed up slightly, and there is no actual direct mechanical connection to the engine that the manual's clutch provides, the combination of the two buffers the drivetrain from the engine. The engine is trying to provide enough torque to accelerate, but at just off idle, the RPMs are so low the power pulses are perceived and the normal drivetrain lash allows the rotating components to setup harmonics back and forth. This manifests itself as a rattle or buzz depending on the load forces at the time. Since both 5th and 6th are overdrive gears, you lose the mechanical advantage with which to accelerate when in those gears.
