My '99 owners manual states that I've got three storage compartments in the rear. That's true, but as I see it only one is really usable. The passenger side compartment has my CD changer, the middle has what appears to be a woofer in it leaving only the drivers side for any real storage and that's not much. Is this a common problem? Does anyone have ideas on additonal storage?
Yours must be a modified version. My changer is mounted in the center against the rear wall and my speakers are mounted behind the seats at the base of the B pillars.

mine as well... but I think i'll relocate my cd changer now to the left one I never use.
I guess someone could have installed some sort of aftermarket sound system. When I put my CLB in a while back I noticed some non-std wiring that was cut and taped. Question: Was a woofer an optional item in that middle compartment? Thanks

mine too, but when i went hunting for my lock-nut key i found two comparments behind each outermost brake like that were free n clear for bottles of detailer, clothes and what not! score

The only thing from GM that comes in the 3 rear compartments is the optional 12CD changer, which is mounted in the middle compartment. There is a space between the driver compartment and the center compartment to put a wheel key.

You can put the woofer on the roof (kinda like the "Blues Mobile"), then you'll have the center compartment for storage.

A very common thing to do is move the CD changer over from the center. I did this so I could toss in an aftermarket subwoofer. It pretty much gobbles up all of the cargo space in the center. The drivers side holds a few tools, some detail cloths and a tire gauge. That's about it! Additional storage options are few. Do you still have stereo they installed? Does that subwoofer work? If not, pull it out and sell it. You'd be surprised at how much you can pack into that little center compartment.

I'm in the same boat. My subs are in a custom poured fiberglass box that takes up the entire center compartment. The passenger side has some sore of electric booster for the 1250w amp. That leaves the drivers side. It's full of rags, detailer spray and a small tool kit.

Nope - the stock stereo was in there when I got it. Not sure if the sub still works but will check tonight. Great advice and feedback from all. Thanks

My guess is they took out the amp that powered it along with their head unit. See what kind of box it is, and post it. Also what kind of woofer and its size. If they are decent and in good shape, you'll find a buyer no problem.

I have never been able to find that space with a key.

The CD changer was an option on the car. As far as the woofer, the prior owner must have added that since it is not standard on the car. Unless you really want to keep the woofer, take it out and then you have that storage space again. Otherwise, not much else you can do other than just carry a box around in the back.
