Default Chrome Hood shocks Question???

I guess my shocks are bad has a herky jerky when closing hood. Does shock have a chrome sleeve on it that can be removed and put on another set? I tried to get these off put kinda looks like it is crimped on. Any ideas or will I have to buy shocks and buy chrome sleeve to put on them??
Thanks

The shock cover is an aftermarket part. I put them on my car this morning. It is a pretty tight fit, but you should be able to get them off.

I turned them up side down and banged on them while holding them with no luck. That is y I thought they were crimped on. Body looks like some crimp marks are on them.

The crimp is usually on the top for looks. The sleve is installed by wrapping tape (of your choice) around the body of the shock, then with some force, sliding the cover into place, If you flip the shock over the bottom shouldn't be crimped. Might want to apply denatured alcohol to the underside of the shock sleeve to loosen the tape glue. Haven't tried it but should work.

Good luck

I'm not so sure a bad shock would cause the hood to open or close "jerky".

Their function is to hold the hood up. When they go bad, they lose the ability to hold the hood up...so if anything, the hood would close easier when they go bad.

If you are having trouble moving the hood up or down, I would suspect the hinges are more likely the culprit, check them for binding or signs of corrosion at the pivot points.
