Default O2 sensor left unplugged!

I had headers installed a month back and Just found my #1 O2 sensor left unplugged!! The car drove fine but it's been in open loop mode all this time.

Why didnt it throw a code? Besides the fact that the plug has melted on the pipe, would the sensor still work?

I'm heading over there to ask that they put in a new sensor but if I have wait while they get the sensor I want the old one plugged in if it can still fit. Will it work? How much is a new sensor?

Thanks.

Have you checked the diagnostics to make sure it did not throw a code?? Perhaps it is one that would not set off the check engine light.

It's possible the MIL light was set to No MIL. As said above use the DIC to check for codes. You should have about 4 or 5 at least pertaining to emissions and the sensor itself.
How did you find the sensor was unplugged?
It should work, unless being in open loop has fouled it and providing the connector still makes a good connection.
I just purchased 2 OEM Delco replacements from autopartswarehouse.com for around $48, less shipping.

I found it with a scan tool/data logger I bought. I noticed one O2 sensor was reading a constant voltage and the other three were not. I checked the DIC and there was no codes. Maybe it threw a code after the install and he cleared it.

Also, the data logger said the engine was in open loop mode and it would not read any fuel trims saying the vehicle did not support it. Then I took a look to see if it was the obvious solution and it was.

I just got back from the installer. When he saw it he just called for a new sensor and installed it, no grief no nothing, no charge and he apologized for my trouble.

My data logger now reads fuel trims and all the stuff it's supposed to. I guess it earned it's keep on the first day I used it.

Now I hafta go figure out what all this information means.:o

Thanks for your help guys.
