I asked this in a recent thread, but got know response.
Do I take my vette to a dealer for the column look recall? Or, do I buy the CLB and install it myself. Seems to me like the dealer fix is correct now (and free). I'm confused.

I am surprised so many of you guys trust the dealer to remove your steering wheel to do the recall, when you could just install a CLB.
You're wasting a day when you could install the CLB in 30-45 minutes.
To each his own....

I researched this issue to death, and decided to do the CLB myself. Got it very quickly from Corvettes of Houston for $49.95 and installed it last Saturday. It was truly a piece of cake. Even easier than everybody had told me it would be ahead of time.
I did the CLB for 2 reasons: 1. I was reading about the factory recall fix failing, and 2. I hate the thoughts of somebody else crawling around in my car and working on it, especially the interior. If I had experience with somebody at a dealership that I knew and could trust, that might be different, but I don't.
I still never received a recall notice on mine, but it is my understanding that GM will reimburse you for the cost of the CLB. I would think you would need to get a recall notice first though.
PPPPPPPPPPPLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEAAAAAAAAAASSS SSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEE dont go to the dealer, i had the latest recall done they removed my cl and now the gas cuts off.F'in fantastic, i called gm they told me to bring it back to the dealer......sssssssssoooooooo 1 more day off from work to sit at the dealer
