they left scratches all down the side of the door...so i had to fly in my buddys 300c to the only body shop in town by 5:00. it was 4:50. to get 3m tape. a nice mod turned into a 4 hours nightmare. taking that old tape off is a damn choir!
but i did get the calipers painted. that paint brush style method takes some patience
I did mine in the hottest part of the day so the sun had them nice and heated up. I used tons of 3m adhesive remover and mono finishing line. First sprayed entire thing w/ the 3m in the crack between bsm and door, let sit for a sec then got out fising line started at the big end and used a up and down sawing motion to work toward the end... I would spray some more 3m on if it would get a little hard to saw through. Once off cleaned area of dirt and removed rest of tape w/ 3m soaking it and using fingernail and rag. Turned out great can't tell they were there. Is this how you tried it? Sorry about the outcome.
What did you use that left scratches down the side of your car? I had no problems using the fishing line technique.
no, they came off fine. i used fishing line. it just looked like there has been clear coat sprayed over the BSM while on the car. there was an indent where the BSM was. no buffing or polish could do anything.

i have heard of this before...one of the local members here tried it a while back, when he pulled his off it too left a ridge where the clear had been sprayed over it. turns out the previous owner must have had a paint repair, just like your car, and they eitehr painted or at least cleared right over it. "might" be able to wet color sand and buff it if you really wanted the clean look, otherwise i'd just leave them on

yup too much money and trouble. they arnt bad looking, just like it more with them off
Ive heard of people using hair dryers to heat the moldings up.
Dont know if it would work as well as a heat gun though
I wouldn't use a heat gun - it's overkill, & you risk bubbling the paint. On a warmish day, once you get the removal started with fishing line to the point where you can get ahold of the BSM, you can just gently pull it off.
I had the same thing happen to me on my driver side, the other side came out perfect! So I had to have some custom paint work done. Now I have flames on the side.

3 Hours and it looks great, I should have done this a long time ago. The vette look is much sweeter without BSM. Just do it. Your thumbs will be sore for a few hours.
Does that mean yours are now off? Yet another thing I debate endlessly!
I stopped debating......
Even though I like the look without them, I decided I'd be "defacing" the car if I removed them. Maybe I'm just too "haynal" about sh- .....stuff like that.
