I have the GY EMT on my '00 coupe.
Does anyone know if GY puts a "born on date" buried somewhere in a code on the sidewall? While I doubt if they are the originals (new to me in Dec. '05) it would be nice to know how old they might be....

Look on the side wall fo rthe USDOT info...
U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number
This begins with the letters "DOT" and indicates that the tire meets all federal standards. The next two numbers or letters are the plant code where it was manufactured, and the last four numbers represent the week and year the tire was built. For example, the numbers 3197 means the 31st week of 1997. The other numbers are marketing codes used at the manufacturer's discretion. This information is used to contact consumers if a tire defect requires a recall.

That means my tires were manufactured the 49th week of '00 and they have 18K on them. Should I be worried?

Thanks for the info ... I wonder if the column lock problem was corrected when the car was manufactured in '01 because there's no mention of it on the warranty. The steering wheel doesn't lock and I've never had a problem with it, knock on wood. The only warranty work is two sun visors, a headlight activator and a battery. Not bad, huh?

Your vehicle being an automatic didn't have a issue with the colum lock, I wen't back and checked your records again and no recall was ever posted or performed for tha issue. Mine is a 2003 model with A4 and like you never had issues or recall notices
