1. Take the 6-speed pattern off the shifter.
2. Then take two flathead screwdrivers to the demon key (the silver lock) to get it off. (There are plenty of threads on that one) It took two minutes. Cover the demon key with a towel, and then take the two screwdrivers to pry it upwards. You use the towel to protect yourself incase it goes flying.
3. Unscrew your shift ****.
4. Then the shift boot is right there for the taking.

The entire job should take about 5-10 minutes. Good luck.

Hi 02z06tr -

I agree with the aboce -

I used a medium vice-grips, locked it onto the square key, and then used a screwdriver pushed through the opening in the vice grips to pry it up and out -

I used a show rag folded up on the edge of the shift know where the fulcrum of the screwdriver was leveraged on the ****.

It popped out pretty easily this way.

THe boot is snapped in with a plastic ring with "fingers' all around it that clip onto the opening in the console.

Just push the boot down, like you are pushing it into the console cavity, and then once it is down and off of the console, bend it carefully and pull it up and out.

Ten minute job depending on how long it takes to get the key out of the shift ****.

best regards -

Not to hijack your thread, but do the after market boots allow for a shorter shifter or an aftermarket shift **** to be used? I guess what I'm trying to ask is the hole in the top of the boot larger and less tight than the stock one? Thanks.

I have the Vette Essentials "Rat" style boot for my B&M Ripper Shifter.
It is a shorter boot made specifically for after market short throw shifters.
