I'am in the process of negotiating an out of state purchase and exploring all options on the best way to bring the car home. I know, fly in and drive it home. But time may be an issue, so I was wondering if anyone would recommend any transport companies. This will be my first C5, I'd like to get it home safely. Thanks for any information.
Strange as it may seem, FedEx is now in the Auto Transport business - I believe they bought Passport, which was one of the larger, well-known companies. Just was talking to a friend yesterday who had a '35 Ford rod delivered by FedEx, and he was happy about his experience.
Other reputable companies: Thomas Sunday, Horseless Carriage, Intercity Lines. All of these are "enclosed" trailers, with door-to-door service.
Avoid companies that use "depot to depot" shipping, like DAS.
depends what you want to spend. closed or open transport etc...
I used a broker , Able Auto Transport , for 2 vehicles in the past year , one of them a vette .No problems at all , and the price is very reasonable considering some of the other bids I got
Last time I had a car shipped, I used this company - a trucking broker set it up for me. The cost was about $1 per mile. Did a good job - I believe they specialize in collector cars.
Intercity lines delivered mine from CA to VA in an enclosed trailer, never moved from position, had updates to delivery times. They wrapped it like a baby, very impressed. I think the driver and his wife had vettes too.....door to door. I dont think anyone wants there car dropped off at depots every couple days, worth the money in my opinion....
Intercity - highly recommmended
I used Reliable Carriers - Did a great job for an enclosed trip.
Horseless Carriage Carriers- I have heard is also very good.
When I bought my vette I had it transported from Florida. I foolishly used a Broker. Nothing bad happened, but they took forever to get a transporter to pick up my car from the seller. It turns out that the transporter was a local guy, that I could have found on my own if I had looked in the phone book. My point is don't overlook the old tried and true methods....... just my .02 Good luck!
Thanks for posting this. I just bought a car in Florida today, and need it delivered to Pennsylvania. I was sweating it out not knowing what to expect. My only thought was to go to Jackson-Barrett site for referrals.
If you watch Barrett Jackson....Intercity is alwasy there and is probably the preferred carrier. However I was told they only go from East/West..West/East. I asked for a transport from SC to IL and they said they don't go north/south. I used Reliable Carriers who supposedly was the enclosed carrier Chrysler used to deliver the prowlers to the dealerships. They did an excellent job.
