Hi fatboytc88 -
It is primarily supposed to remove stuck on things like tar specks, perhaps overspray, tree sap, etc.
If your paint is smooth to the touch, i.e. you don't feel stuff on the pain with your hand, then you don't need the claybar in my opinion.
I used it on our black C5, and it seemed to work pretty well, but it did not get all of the little sap specks off of the car.
I used a polisher and some Adams polish to get it top notch.
I use it once a year or if I parked under a maple tree. It takes off all the dirt and crap and makes the paint look and feel smoother. Then add about 5 coats of Zaino and it looks like glass.
Actually should use it often. On a C5 the back end will stir dust and dirt. Even though the paint looks clean you will fill that it has a texture.....clay bar will make this smooth as glass like it should be
Claybars rock, but I am partial to Griots product. With their Speed Shine, it is amazing. I also use all of their polishses and waxes. Great product, in my opinion! Like the previous post, when you run your hand over your paint and can feel little specks of dirt (bumps for lack of a better term), then you should use the claybar before your wax.
I go over my cars once every spring with a clay bar to remove contaminants from the paint, then follow it up with coats of Zaino. When I purchased my then new '04 Infiniti, I went over it with a clay bar...you would be surprised how "dirty" a new car could be.
By the way Fatboy, I am also a Fatboy owner (man, Corvette owners have alot in common!!), and wanted to share a link to my bike. One of my best friends who retired from the Air Force a couple of months ago is now painting, and my bike was his first custom paint job.
