I was traveling north from Memphis on Singleton Pkwy today and came up on a fellow C5er on the side with a jack under his car. I immediately pull to the right lane and then to the sholder to off some aide.
The car was up good on the jack and all looked safe. He said he was dealing with a blow-out flat. I looked and saw TOYO on the tire so I knew they were non run-flats. His struggle was with the aftermarket wheels not allowing the lug-wrench to fit around the lugs to tighten.......not my story here though.
I am nearing tire purchase territory and am heavily leaning toward D3's, especially if they come in Z06 sizes. BUT events such as this make me really rethink the run-flat issue.
The question is still looks/performance vs. security.
I will keep my runflats. That's just one less reason to be sitting on the side of the road while traffic zooms by me. I've not ridden in a C5 without them, so I don't know what I'm missing as far as performance. Sometimes not knowing what you are missing is a good thing. Good luck with your choice. If you buy the non run flats and I see you stranded at the side of the road, I will stop and offer to be your cheerleader while you jack around with the flat!
I have stock Z06 wheels and tires. Non run flats. I carry a repair kit and compressor. If that doesn't do it I have AAA. They can flat bed it to a repair shop for me. I will never use RunCraps again. I had two wheels destroyed by a tire shop trying to remove them.
