Hello, out there. Can anyone tell me when the passenger air bag on/off switch was introduced to the C5? I originally thought that the switch was added in 2001, but I spoke to a 2000 owner who believes that his car has the switch. So was this switch introduced in 2000 (for some or all of the year), or in 2001? I have a young son, so this question is important to my C5 search. Thanks for your help!
I'm not certain if it was available at the start of the model year, but according to the following, the Passenger Air Bag Shut Off Switch became available in model year 2000:
Also, GM has a C5 Passenger Air Bag Shut Off Switch Kit that can be added to those C5s that did not come from the factory with one. These kits are available from Ken Fichtner Chevrolet and possibly some of the other Forum dealers/venders here:
Thanks everyone for your posts! Apparently the switch was added during the 2000 model year, no later than 2/29/00 (per JDs00PewterCoupe's response). So I'll start looking for a clean, mid-year 2000 with a manual tranny in the mid-Atlantic region! If anyone has any particular concerns about 2000 reliability (versus 1999 and 2001), please let me know.

My '01 was assembled in July 2000 - with switch.
Now, to that reliability question....since you appear to be comparing across 3 model years...I won't say my '01 is typical, but you might want to read this thread for a list of major repairs I've had to perform:
