That will depend on the mods done to your car and your muffler selection and how loud you want the car plus your tolerance for the fuel smell.
Best thing to do is find someone w/o them and see if you can tolerate the smell and go from there.
Some say there is no smell others say its horrible. I think it's all personal tolerance. Personally, my car was horrible and it was also tuned by one of recc. forum sponsors so I ended up putting the cats back on.

I would go with the cats because I prefer to stay legal, however people who prefer the best performance possible would probably go with no cats.

Not worth the little extra gained without them!

Because of the noise or the smell?

I am in the same boat. I have LGs with cats, stock TIs and wish it was a bit louder. Considering aftermarket mufflers but don't want to give up the weight of the TIs and the only thing close are the BB Bullets - not sure I want that loud. Taking cats off will be a little louder I'd imagine, but not sure I want to deal with smell. LG told me that their cats are only worth 3-5 HP loss so that's not too bad.

If it's for a primarily track driven car, then no cats obviously. I just put high-flow cats on (have LGM long tubes and X pipe with factory exhaust), because the smell was very bothersome to me. This is a personal thing, and some folks are more sensitive to it than others. I've had passengers who didn't smell it, while I was gagging, and others who smelled it before I did. I don't notice any hp loss. The sound is definitely toned down a bit. And I admit, the car sounded wonderful without the cats, but it just wasn't worth the irritation of the odor (for me).

Hi fastbluels6 -

If you go catless, you will definitely spell the exhaust, particularly at stoplights and in your garage.

It does not smell bad to me - similar to the old days when all cars smelled like that.

I do not find it to be a problem, but some might.

Other than that - its GREAT!

best regards -

No cats just takes a slight adjustment in your driving... as you apply the brake pedal to stop use your index and middle finger on your left hand to close the windows and the index finger on your right hand to hit the 'recirc' on the vents... no smell!

Cats or no cats really comes down to how LOUD you want the car to be. Please keep in mind that the cats do about 90% of the sound cancelation, not the mufflers. Once you remove the cats, the volume goes WAY UP, to the point that you may not be able to tolerate it on the street. This is what should influence your decision.

I have not cats, sounds great and I wouldn't change a thing. I don't smell anything...however I'm sure the people behind me do when I take off.

If you go with cats, save your money and do some other mod. The $$ vs. HP gain isn't worth it to me unless you go w/out cats.

Depends on your state emissions laws.

I'd keep 'em on there. High flow one's flow quite well. It'll be louder and the fuel smell will be more obvious like the others posted above.

People are always talking abbout smell, I've had my cats off since my 04was two weeks old and hae NEVER smelled anything. Maybe becuase Charlie the tuning pimp did his job, but the smell after a tune should be non existent. I say no cats, go for max power and sound.

I want to jump in and say that I just had Random tech bullet cats put into my formerly offroad x-pipe. Two things happened

#1 The nasty smell went away

#2 It remained loud

I have a Corsa Pace system, and yes, it was loud before with the offroad x. Now with the cats, I imagine it got a little quieter, if I were to have measured it, but its not enough to notice. Its still nice and loud. Its those aweful factory cats that make it quiet.

A third thing will soon happen, they will soon smell like sulfer, cause codes and eventually clog and cause your engine to knock. Random is POS.
