Default Replacing Blown Airbags

I'm looking at another C5 to purchase and the airbags did go off in an accident. No frame damage and a clear title, something about a jealous gf or something was the cause of the inflation. I'm just wondering what it would cost to replace the airbags? The passenger side airbag cover is almost fine (where it says Corvette) the drivers side is split in the middle. Thanks again!

Check with Gene at the Karshop. He's probably going to have the best price unless you can find one on E-bay or in the Parts for Sale section.

FWIW, I'd be skeptical of the "jealous GF" story about why the bags went off... from what I understand it takes a decently significant event to trigger the bags... I really doubt a person could set them off without hitting something pretty hard. There may be more surprises under the skin. Be thorough.

On an S2000 which my wife got T-boned in, the bill was $3k for replacement of both airbags and triggering mechanism.

Good luck

Used airbags are cheap now...you can find them in your local junkyard or on ebay for a fraction of what they used to cost.

Bags are about $650 each, they come with new covers... Air bag module is about $350... These are ballpark figures, not exact. Fitchner or Fred Beans can hook you up.
I wouldn't want to trust my life or someone I love to a junk yard airbag. There might even be insurance ramifications if you have an accident with wrecking yard bags. Also, there are few C5's in the wrecking yards that don't have blown bags. I tried some of the on-line specialists that sel air bags, and none had any for a 'Vette. Cavaliers, you can get all0 day, but not Vettes
I also found when I bought mine that the wrecking yards want almost as much for a set as you can get them for from our supporting vendors.
You could probably get away with not replacing the module, but GM reccomends it, so thats what i did.

Yeah I posted asking for a carfax and I found out that the Vette has a salvage title and 5 owners So my offer is going to be CONSIDERABLY lower then what he's asking, if i still offer at all. I own an 01 Vette and my brother owns one as well. I'm just looking for a cheap used vette to use as my daily driver. I still want all the power without putting the miles on mine. In case your wondering why I'm going to be spending $10-13K on another vette when the miles I would be putting on my 01 would never hurt the resale that much, is because one day I want to pass on my 01 to my son so he can enjoy the ride just as much as his pop did!

Just spoke to Bob and Fitchner (real nice guy thanks for all your help!)

Around $1400 for both bags and a module without the required Harardous Shipping Costs and installation. So I have another barganing chip on my side of the table! Still alittle...well alot weary of the car so well see how it goes. Thanks again everyone for all your help!
