I took my car in this morning (to a dealership) for an oil change and to have a "squeak" looked at. The "squeak" was coming from the front end and was noticable after you turned off the car...it sounds like a pulley or the assembly the fan is attached to is "squeaking" after the car is turn off and the fan is slowing to a stop. It definitely sounds cyclical. At any rate the dealership saids its the "air injection pump" and that it's normal for these cars????
2 questions arise from this for me. 1. are they for serious? 2. should i be concerned about taking my car to this dealership again since I've never heard of an "air injection pump" and although I'm not mario andretti I do have some auto know how...
The AIR pump is a real thing, it is under the front of the car, driver's side, just behind the nose.
Now, if it could be 'squeaking', that's hard to tell, primarily because it's hard to tell what you mean by 'squeaking' (not to be difficult here but noises are very subjective).
You could do a test and have someone shut it off for you while you listen at that location (it's basically behind the fog light shroud driver's side).
If it's coming from there I'd say there's nothing to worry about. Otherwise, maybe there's more description you can give?
a squeak would annoy me..and if the dealership says its that air pump that is squeakin and they replace it and its not it..get them to find the right thing and fix it no charge
I just picked up my 04 Coupe from the dealer. Was throwing a code PO492. The Vette mech told me that was a "air injection pump" code. They removed the manafold and replaced the pump as the valve was stuck. He told me it was a pump that pumped oxygen into the exhaust and the code was thrown because there was too much carbon monoxide in the exhaust. Don't know if this makes much sense but they did it under warranty. Hope this gives you some kind of idea?
Your air pump is in the driverside front in the bumper....however there is two check valves one on the drivers side and one behind the intake manifold. I just totally removed my pump and will remove it's related systems as soon as i pull my intake manifold.
