Sorry about your car! I hope you get it back and these people get nailed. Most stolen cars are Hondas and other junkers no one cares about and people that steal them should get locked up. Stealing a Corvette should be considered a much more serious crime. We actually give a damn about our cars. Some of you put mods and your own hard work into them or at the least like me wash it entirely too much and put hard earned dollars into it (at the least to keep it on the road). Just the thought of some low life physically touching one of these cars makes me sick. What concerns me personally about a situation like this for a poor guy like me who has to finance it how does the insurance company handle it? Technically the bank owns it right? Do they pay the bank and cancel my loan? Do they pay me the book value? I just got mine several months ago would I be screwed on the finance charges?

It is worse- unless you have an option in your insurance to payoff the balance of the loan, you will get fair market value and if the amount of the loan is more than the fmv- you will owe!

might want to look into GAP coverage insurance. Google GAP insurance.
Sorry to hear about this. What's even scarier is the fact that the Police actually had the car in pursuit and had to call off the chase due to the excessive speed. I guess this is one instant where the speed of the Corvette actually works against you . My Vette is always parked with a car blocking it in, just another step in theft deterrent.
Every 26 seconds, a motor vehicle is stolen in the United States. The odds of a vehicle being stolen were 1 in 190 in 2003 (latest data available). The odds are highest in urban areas.
U.S. motor vehicle thefts fell 1.9 percent in 2004 from 2003, according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports. In 2004, 1,237,114 motor vehicles were reported stolen.
The West was the only region with an increase in motor vehicle thefts from 2003 to 2004, up 3.2 percent. Thefts fell 9.7 percent in the Northeast, 4.4 percent in the Midwest and 2.9 percent in the South.
Nationwide, the 2004 motor vehicle theft rate per 100,000 people was 421.3, down 2.9 percent from 433.7 in 2003. The highest rate was reported in the West, 664.5, up 1.7 percent, the only region registering an increase. The rate of motor vehicles stolen was 397.8 in the South, down 4.2 percent from 2003; 341.6 in the Midwest, down 4.8 percent; and 262.5 in the Northeast, down 9.9 percent.
Only 13.0 percent of thefts were cleared by arrests in 2004.
Carjackings occur most frequently in urban areas. They account for only 3.0 percent of all motor vehicle thefts.
The average comprehensive insurance premium in the U.S. rose 11.2 percent from 1999 to 2003, the most recent data available.
Why waste your money on Lojack?
With lojack it is not effective until you realize you car is gone. So from the time you car is stolen and found with lojack the theft has had time to thrash your car, so your car is partial wrecked so the insurance company ends up fixing your car. If my car gets stolen I would rather have car not found or totally damaged and written off by the insurance company.
Very sorry to hear this sad story. That can happen to anybody anytime.U never know.I hope they solve the case quick. What can u do, just a bad luck.Take Care man.

thats what I thought. But LOJACK tells me they have a 5 method warning system (email, cell, page, 2 phone #'s). The only thing is they say the system takes 15-30 minutes to warn you. My resposne was thats an eternity. I guess you can get LOJACK plus get one of those those pager systems that goes off if your car is moved or door is opened. That way you can call the cops immedidatley.
This is strictly low tech. I park my 1997 Bonneville SSE behind my Vette in the evening. If you want the Vette you have to move the Bonneville. If I hear someone messing around with the help of my 156lb Great Dane, I will go out and shoot the hell out of them. It has worked so far. I hate thieves!
Lojack is a joke, when it forst came out they were good in large major cities. Lojack gave the LEOs the equipment to find the cars. But now, that equipment is old, broken, and has never been repaired. Lojack is to cheap to fix the stuff. We have over 1100 cruisers and we had 100 units, we are now down to less than 20.

I'll have to look into it, back is already to the wall though with current bills.

Wonder how the runcraps would hold up on stop sticks

So in short, you do the math.
LOJACK is good...if it were in a perfect world. yes, we too have the issues of old equipment etc that they wont fix. we are down to like maybe 8 cars for a city of 350K+ that are lojack equipped and i know of two that the darn things dont even work anymore. just the other day a neighboring agency got a lojack hit and they narrowed it down to one of our apt complexes at the border of our city and theirs but we couldnt help any because we didnt have any lojack equp't cars to help triangulate it.

good info. I have been a bit cyinical with LowJack for a few reasons. I'm sure it would help in some cases but my concern is with true percentages of recoveries. I'd like to find a forum of car owners who honestly share their experiences (not the marketing testimonial liars) regarding lowjack after their car was stolen

Hang in there! Hope the car is found safe and sound and returned to you, ASAP.

Thanks for the info. Ill be doing some calling in my area to find out what kind of ratios there are. I'll also be fowarding some of this info to Lojack Corporate. Would like to hear what they say on fixing this older r equipment
You hit the proverbial nail on the head. Pros can steal Ferraris, Corvettes, BMW's, etc. It doesn't matter if it's got an alarm, computer chip encoded key, lojack, the club, etc.

Read the website, its not a anti theft device,(if they want it theyll get it), But as far as recovering it the quickest, that is what its purpose is, There is a transmitter in the vehicle , once the police get the call the transmiter is located , hense that is where the car is.Dont knock it until you have tryed it.
I know of Lambos that were still in the get away process while the police located the vehicle while still driving , therefore recovering the vehicle before it reached any unwanted demise.
