Default thoughts on jack storage

I am considering buying a small scissors jack to carry on out-of-town trips, along with my plug kit, compressor, etc. I have seen postings here where folks have placed a small jack in the middle storage well in back. But, in the event of a frontal impact, the forward ramp of that storage well would make the jack a 5 pound missle at head height; not an attractive thought. And I don't see an acceptable way to anchor it. The only alternative I have come up with, is to find one that can be stored behind and below the passenger seat. Obviously, the seat could not be in its most rear position, but that is rarely an issue. I would appreciate other recommendations folks might care to offer. And for those who are wondering why carry a jack with the plug kit, ever tried plugging a rear tire while on the car? It's not easy.

Underseat Storage Jack for Chevy & GMC Trucks, get one at the junkyard

I keep a similar jack in the right rear compartment held in along with the inflator kit,
there is room in the inflator kit for a WalMart Plug Kit and a small bottle of soapy water.

the jack from C5Fredrick looks extremely unstable. I have used the truck jack from my S10 before on more than one occasion. It will get real low and works great. You coudl try securing it in the rear compartment with some idustrial stregth velcro. That stuff is amazingly strong and should be enough to keep the jack from sliding.

That thing looks about as sturdy as a coke bottle! I guess in an emergency it would be great to have. I would definitely chock all the other wheels thoug when lifting it.

I think I have solved my problem. Since my M3 also comes with no jack, I found a BMW jack kit that includes small but sturdy scissors jack, rachet handle, folding wheel chock, and a lug/torque wrench that is set (non-adjustable), at about 90 pounds. It uses a 1/2" socket drive, so I can carry this kit with the provided 17MM for BMW, and a spare 19MM for the Vette. The whole kit comes in a small bag that fits easily behind the passenger seat. At $120, it's more than I would spend for a spare jack, but since it's a neat kit that I can use in both cars, I decided to go with it.

It's just an optical illusion.

It really is stable. I lift both wheels off all of the time and take them both off. It has the same footprint as a bottle jack, it lifts directly over the pad just like a scissor jack.
