Default GM Bra installation

I'm picking up my new car for a road trip this weekend, and I'm taking a new GM bra with me. I'll need to install it when I get there, and was hoping someone could let me know what tool(s) I might need to bring in case I have no access to any when I get there.

Thanks for any help

If you take a philips screwdriver (shorter the better) and a small socket set, you should be good to go. I will worn you, the quarter panel bolts they provide with that bra, suck! You can do this with removing the wheels, just turn the wheel as far to one side as possible to give yourself some room and then do the opposite side the same way.

Have fun.

No ramps or jacking needed to install, but the screws do suck hard.

I bought some different snaps and screws at walmart which work much better than the ones that come with it. I use some painters tape where the straps wrap around that go to the snaps. Dirt builds up behind the straps and wears the paint. Do a search for a product called Diamondite and you may not need a bra. It forms a plastic film that washes off with water after you get a buildup of bugs. Good luck. Jimmy

Small phillips and small socket set. I used the screws that came with the bra, it wasn't that bad. Just take your time with it.

Three further suggestions:

If you have a radiator screen, be prepared to get a finger or a bent-nose pick or screwdriver above/behind the lower lip of the front fascia. The bra's replacement screws are fairly short, so getting them to start in the nut wasn't going to happen until I found a way to press on the nut from behind in order to force together the snap-screw/fascia/screen/panel nut stack. Once the first thread of each catchs, they grab and tighten down ok.

The inner wheel well nuts have a *tiny* locking tab on the stamped nut which engages the hole on the fender panel. Prying these "zip-nuts" off is a pita, in large part because this little tab hangs up and won't let go. Knowing it's there should help you focus on what twists/turns/prying you need to do to get the nuts to slide off the fender flange.

If you have problems with the rubber nuts from the bra kit spinning in the holes before they get tight enough to expand, you can remove the bottom access panel under the turn signal, and reach up with pliers to hold the rubber part from behind. If you do this, you'll probably need a second person to turn the screwdriver, unless you're a contortionist And if you're as ham-fisted as me, you'll probably have to remove the access panel(s) anyway to retrieve the zip-nuts that pop off and fall into the fascia before you can catch them.

Get four 5/8" #8 marine snaps to use instead of the rubber grommets GM provides with the bra.

These work great in the wheel wells. Other than that, it is a snap to put on and take off. You'll enjoy it and the protection it offers.

You were doing something wrong. I've had two other brands and they were a PITA. The GM one went on in 45 mins and that included alot of BS'ing that two of us did.

Let the stealership mechanics do it (the install will probably be free from the selling dealer; mine was).

Not the case here. Perfect install in about 20 min. and from cost and aggravation.
