Default Help. Need Advice now.

I put about a 1/2 qt too much oil in my C5 (don't ask). I don't have the equipment to jack it up and drain it. I really don't want to bring it to a dealership unless absolutely necessary. Do I have to be concerned?

Thanks.

Half a QT not enough to worry about. Start it up and let it run for a little bit. Check the dip stick for foam. If you have foam on it, ya you need to drain some. If no foam, dont worry you'll be fine.

When you track the car you are suppose to add extra oil anyways...

You are fine...

Willful,

Someone in the tech section mentioned bearing wash. Any clue what this is? Thanks.

I ran it for a 1/2 hour and saw no foam.

Thanks again.

I woudn't worry about it. THink of all the millions of oil changes done every day by DIY-ers and moronic quick lube "techs", and think about how often the jobs must be done with a quart low or a quart high. Now think about how many real, true, verifiable stories you've heard of damage being done to an engine due to a little too much oil.

Yea, I've never heard of any, either.

Hey to another MDer, and nice color, btw.

Then think of how many oil spots are underneath parked cars. Too much oil can cause problems, and cause too much pressure on gaskets. Myself personally, I wouldn't run on it, but that's me.

too much will cause the crank weights to churn the oil. causing foam that in turn will cause lifter clatter. if no foam, no problem. my last oil change they dumped in all 7 quarts. no probs with it so far. change it next oil change

Ok, well, I wasn't thinking of it like that, but you make a point. I was thinking more along the lines of it being just 1/2 quart over. So no huge deal.

I'll be looking out for my NBM neighbor, and ready with a wave.

I used to drain the oil out of my boat with a suction thing that attached to a drill. If you're concerned enough about it and it bothers you, get to a boat store (or wally-mart) and fix it problem cheaply.

Hope this helps.

Where does the oil level show on the dipstick? My guess is that a half-quart probably doesn't even show.

I always add a 1/2 quart. The manual says it's OK for "spirited" driving.

and

Who wants to end up with an extra 1/2 quart every time you change the oil ? Mine only uses 1/2 a qt. between changes anyway.

Don't worry about it. While I only put 6.5 qts in mine to get it full, others report putting 7 qts in theirs and it reads full. The extra 1/2 quart won't hurt the car.

Changing your own oil? Harbor Freight has a great little aluminum floor jack... hundred bucks. You'll like it.
