Default 3.42 gears

Got my 3.42 gears installed yesterday and picked up my car today. I noticed a little ooomph from and the and I can say that I am satisfied Just one issue and I thought you guys can help me out.
On my way home wiht the windows closed, I started hearing a faint humming noise everytime I stepped on the gas pedal and it's coming from the rear. About 3-4 miles before I reach home, the humming got a little stronger, still happens when I step on my gas pedal, but it is accompanied by like a faint grinding noise everytime I stepped on and off the gas pedal ( the grinding sound sounds like when you shift gears but not as loud) I don't smell anything on the outside, car runs fine, it's just that annoying noise, and I don't hear any real loud grinding noise, just that faint humming. Can you guys help me with this one. Thanks.

Is it used gear? Was it the whole differetial you had swaped out or was it gears? If it was a used set they could be worn..I'd try a different brand of gear oil..such as Royal purple gear oil. If it was a set of gears installed , they maybe setup wrong...others will chime in on this with better answears maybe..
Good luck

I dont experience any of that.

Doesn't sound right too me.
All you experienced was a little bit of ooooph?
I had 2.73's
It felt like I bolted a hundred horsepower to the car when I put the 3'42's in.

Or this could be backwards.

It could be a brand new carrier and gears. It would seem a brand new set would be more inclined to hum a little thru the gears.

It's a new set of gears I got from a forum member. The job was a gear swap not a whole unit swap. The shop did use Royal Purple. I did talk to the shop and I'll bring it back tuesday. But anymore inputs from you guys is greatly appreciated.

I have heard some nightmare stories about just swapping the gears, instead of doing a whole DIFF swap. Take it back to the shop and let them evaluate it for you. I wouldn't play a guessing game to much long, you maybe able to get it fixed without having to replace to much.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Well, I'll bring it back tuesday. The shop was very fast with their response when I e-mailed them. So I don't think I will have any problem with them. Hopefully it's nothing. I'll give an update for future reference for members who will do the same gear swap.

Is there any type of problems that can occur by putting the 3.42 gear in (short term/long term) if your running stock 3.15's?

Agree w/ above. There shouldn't be any noise coming from the new gears. Take the car back and have it evaluated. Good luck.....
