I will be getting some used tires soon that will not be used for several months. Is there any special concerns when storing them. Like on their sides, not on concrete or who knows what else....
This will be my first time buying used tires and or storing them.

Don't store them where a dog (and I guess other animals too) has access to them, they love to **** on them - really.

I have an extra set of wheels and tires for my car. I store them in the garage, with the bottom tire sitting on a couple of 2x4's to keep it off the concrete. Then I have placed a thick piece of cardboard in between each tire and just stack them flat on top of each other.

If they[re not stored properly there can be distortion in their appearance. In addition to avoiding electric motors, also avoid wet, humid areas and out of direc sunlight. As a geneeral rule they should be stored upright (like you see them in the stores) to prevent disfiguration. That will make mounting easier. If you are storing inflated tires, deflate them to about 50%.
Tires should always be stored standing up on the tread. In the same position they would be if on the car.
Take a look at any tire warehouse or store and see how they store every tire. That will tell you.... ESPECIALLY if they are mounted on their wheels. Laying on their sides, the weight of the wheel will be constantly pulling down on the sidewalls.

Its JUST tires...now wheels!!
So I think storing them on the tread is the consesus.....glad I asked...I would have stored them on sides

It doesn't matter how you stack them for storage unless you put them on the racks and they mishapen. We defected out a lot of tires that were stored this way when I worked at PepBoys.
As far as the rest of the advice, it's good. No sunlight, no ozone, no animals. I kept a light coat of spray on tire dressing on my GTA's tires when I stored them in plastic bags. Yeah they were a little greasy coming out (silicone), but that wears off in no time. They lasted three years while I was in Korea are are stillb eing used to this day.

Everyplace I worked that stored tires had them stored upright to save space....
