Default Question about new wheels

Hi,

I just received a new set of wheels, tires and pressure sensors for my frc from a well known vendor. The wheels that I bought are advertised as "forged 1-piece" When I received them I noticed that there is an extension for lack of a better term, that is welded to the rim to make it wider.

The tires, wheels and sensors were over $6k so I've got a substantial investment here.

My questions are:

Are welded wheels common?
Will this hurt anything?

Should I be upset because I was not notified that the wheels were going to be welded?

Thanks for any input

A "1 piece" forged wheel means just that, it was forged from one solid piece of aluminum...then machined to maintain the forged integrity...
there is no welding...... welding destroys the forged strength.
three piece forged wheels have thee individual forgings that are individually machined then bolted together... again no welding..
While welding a forging can be done, it is no longer a forging..

A welded extension on a forged one piece wheel? I suggest you call the vendor asap. My $.02.

What size of rims did you buy. The largest 1 piece forged rim I'm aware that anyone makes and sells is an 11" width, any wider and I think you have to go to multiple pieces or have an extension welded to the rim to make it wider.

Default Wheel Width

The new wheels are:

19 X 9 1/2
19 X 11

I spoke with the vendor this morning and he did confirm that they are welded. I'm in the process of returning them.

I think that vendor needs to change the wording in their ad ASAP.

It isn't required that you identify the vendor - but it would be helpful if you shared the name of the wheels so that someone else doesn't make the same costly mistake. Sorry for your troubles.
