Got in my daily driver (except for foul weather) after letting her sit for 3 days. Turned the key and....nothing. Battery was dead. I heard what sounded like an electric motor running but couldn't identify it. Got a jump (from the wife's VW ) and it's been fine since. It's happened before but I thought it had something to do with the passive unlock system - not the case. Any ideas?

What battery do you have?
The electric sound you heard was probable the fuel pump firing up...
If turns out to NOT be the battery, FWIW, I had the sensor in the ignition cylinder go bad... it would read the resistor in the key... you may want to clean the resistor (with some rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip) in the key first.
