Just received my latest GM card statement and on it it states that we are being upgraded to the new GM Card World Master Card and have been assigned a new account number. It seems this card has limitations on the rebates. We have one of the original GM Cards which gave me $3,500 off my C-5 in 2000. What gives with this new card? Do we have to accept the upgrade and the new rules, or can we decline and request to continue with our old card and its rules. I'm interested to hear what others have found out
I don't have that card yet, but I know the limitation on the Vette has been $1000 for the last couple of years.
That's true for their more popular cars, and has been for some time.
For a Grand Am, they weren't moving, I got the full $2700 at the time in 2002. I know for a Ranier (2004) it would have been limited at $1500 when it came out, but it didn't matter because I had blown the money on a Grand Am. So for some time, it has depended upon the car and how well it is selling.

That's true for those who got a GM card in the past 4 or 5 years. The original GM Card, of which many still have, does not put a limit on the rebate. We can use the full $3,500 on any GM car as I did when I bought my '00 C-5. I want to know if they are trying to change that
Years ago there was no rebate limit, but you had a $500 a year limit and 7 years to use it. My card has no yearly limit, but they put limits on most of the cars.
Up to this statement that's what I had, a $500 max accumulation and $3,500 total after 7 years. No limit on using the $3,500 on a GM car. Note: about four or 5 years ago GM Card pulled a shrewed one on many original card holders, enticing them with lower monthly finance charges etc, those who took them up then had to go by the new rules which limit the amount you can use, according to what GM sets on particular cars. I declined that switch back then, so I still am (were) under the original rules. I want to know from others who are still under the original rules, if I can again decline the so-called upgraded and remain under the original terms of $500 yr and ability to use up to $3,500 on any GM car
I've had the card for over 10 years and will be dumping it in a few weeks. Too many restrictions now, I'd rather get airline miles.
FYI -- just got notice that my 110,000 miles on United that were once good enough to claim two First class tickets will only get two regular tickets. The days of the freebies are over.
I do have a card that will get me points towards free rooms in Vegas (MGM Grand, Mirage, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay). Guess I'll go for that. No limits.

I have both gm cards, the "old" 500/yr/3500 max and the "new" card which limits the amount of the rebate by vehicle. If they try to force me to swith I'll drop both. Too many other good card deals out there.

I am in the same situation as you. I got the new cards on Saturday and tried calling the info line but it was so busy the answering system told me to call back some other time. When I first dialed the info line it used my home phone number to come back at me with the new card number and I said it wasn't the correct card and then entered my current card number. My original card number is good for two more years. I really do not want a new number since I have my card on file with a bunch of service providers. It will be a real pain to change them all over to a new number.

My original gold card was for 1000/yr up to seven years. I once did 5200 on a silverado, and I used 2300 on my 04 CE vert. I'll have to read the fine print on the world card that I was just told is in the mail.
