Default tire sensors question

I have done the reading on this and appear to know this much :
- 97- 2000 cars cannot turn the sensor monitors off like post 2000 cars can through the DIC. My uderstanding is , and please correct me if I am wrong , that the module that monitors this activity is in the driver's door .
The question is , can a 97- 2000 car upgrade to a post 2000 module where the owner will become capable of turning this feature off ? has that been tried ?
or is it completely different ? I know if nothing else the post 2000 sensors are half as expensive , by upgrading the module that may allow the use of these sensors instead , espcially since from what i have read as well that the older style sensors are no longer in production , so what happens as our cars age and no more sensors are available ???

thanks

Actually, you can't turn it off thru the DIC. The 2001 and newer cars have the ability to turn off the sensors which came out when the Z06 and their non-runflat tires were introduced. The owner is not capable of turning this feature off, You need a tuner to do it via the on-board computer using a Tech II programmer. The receiver is mounted behind the gas cap on the driver's side, not in the driver's side door. I don't know of anyone that has made the swap to the receiver. As I recall It is not only for the TPS but also for the door locks. I have also never heard of the fact that the old style sensors are no longer in production

This is correct

My uderstanding is , and please correct me if I am wrong , that the module that monitors this activity is in the driver's door .
This is incorrect, the BCM is in the floor well on the passengers side.. The receiver is on the drivers side inside the trunk under the carpet...The door control module is in the door

The question is , can a 97- 2000 car upgrade to a post 2000 module where the owner will become capable of turning this feature off ? has that been tried ?
No it can not

I dont know where you read that, but it was probably from some know it all here....We have many... They are in production as we speak..They are all date stamped. I just bought a set that were manufactured three months before I bought them with a date stamp of 08/05..These are the gen 1 sensors for my 99

so what happens as our cars age and no more sensors are available ???
They will be making those sensor for many years to come...

thanks

Hey Evil, did you ever think of making a sticky on the TPS ? It would sure cut down on your typing.
