I'm ready for new brakes on my '02 C5. I only drive in on the street so I don't need high performance. I have read a few posts here through the search feature but I'm still not sure what I need.
I'm thinking of ordering the GM slotted and drilled rotors and ceramic front and rear pads from Gmpartsdirect. Is this a good setup or is there something better for a comparable price? Is there a better place to order?
Also, is this a DIY? What's involved in doing this? I am mechanically inclined but I don't want to risk my families safety if this should be left to a professional.

Thanks for any help.
Unless you are familiar with brakes and their components(like ABS), I'd leave it up to a professional(like myself). I've seen way too many DIY'ers screw them up and come into our shop, horrified on how they made it without killing someone.

That's why I wanted to check. I found some instruction someone posted and it seems really easy but Murphy always manages to show up and cause things to happen.
My dealer said if I brought him the rotors and pads they would install install them for $99 an axle.
I've seen some very good reviews and comments on Raybestos Quiet Stops. I think I will be picking up a set of these. I've gone to sportbrakes website but none of the pictures work so I can't see what I'm buying. I assume rws.1 picture is the drilled and slotted ones but I'd like to see what the dimple and slotted ones look like.
Anyone know the best place to order Raybestos Quiet Stops?

i have had the gm slotted drilled and ceramic pads on my car for one week. the rotors have already started to rust (not the part where the pad goes on but the hub area) and as for the ceramic pads, i dont care for them, yes they are quiet but their stopping ability compared to the factory oem pads stink. i will be removing my pads in the next month and offering them for free to a list member if they want them.
Also, can anyone tell me how cheap are new rotor bolts instead of trying to reuse the old ones?
Regardless of what was mentioned earlier, there is no such thing as rotor bolts. There are lug nuts, caliper bolts and caliper mounting bracket bolts. Most people, myself included, clean the original bolts and reuse them after applying Loctite or any comparable thread locker.

I'm running the Hawk HPS brake pads - so far they have performed very well. As far as the rotors go, the Sportbrakes are a good product and are moderately priced.
