Default Check engine lite on...need help

Well my 2002 that I just bought in December has the check enine light on! Here is what it is doing:

1. Started it this evening and it was running rough.
2. After 3 minutes of normal driving the check engine light came on
3. My gas milage average went from 19.8 to 12.6

My car has 13500 miles, recent Mobile 1 oil change, driven every day since I bought it. When I got the car it had 7500 well maintained miles.

Any ideas before I take it to the GM store???

Many thanks, can't sleep waiting for 7:30 tomorrow when the service dept. opens!

My guess would be the fuel pressure regulator crapped out on you... To know for sure you should get a code scanner and check the code before you drop it off...

What code did it throw? Check here for how to pull codes and what code it threw. H codes are history codes and not what has happened recently. C codes are current codes that have recently occurred.

Why do you need a code scanner, just check the codes with the DIC.

Default Check engine ... help

Many thanks Vette Noob, I checked the engine codes....

Here is what I have:

P0171
p0174

It says Fuel Trim system lean for bank 1 and 2.

I forgot to note in my origninal post that for the lastr few weeks when I get on the gas I get the lean ping sound from under the hood. I new that it meant lean but thought it was a fuel issue even though I use super premium.

Can you help by telling me what is the cause of these codes and what $$ / parts I may need???

Thanks again,

Many thanks all for comments!

Mr. Goodwrench fixed the problem ..... 3 injectors were dirty most likely due to bad gas from the change over that is going on to the new fuel mixtures....
