2001 was the first year, I believe.

They're smaller cats that are on the exhaust pipe up just behind the exhaust manifold. My 02 has them and it was built in July 01.

I think California Vettes had them originally. I have a 2000 FRC and it has precats in addition to the main cats. I think in late 2001, they put them in all Vettes to make them 50 state legal.

I've heard similar; that precats were first installed in 1999 - but just for certain areas of the country and Canada.

But like others have stated, starting 2001... all C5's have precats, except for the Z06.

I have some pics here:

no resonators, they are pre or pup cats

97-99 and the 02-04 Z's have no pre cats

00-04 and 01 Z have pre cats, CA models may be different

i have a pile of 99/00/01/02/03 h-pipes and half of an 04(x-pipe install)

also interesting to note the early 97-00 h-pipes won't work w/ the later version, the later cast iron manifolds(commonly referred to z06 manifolds, but standard upgrade on ALL c5's in 01) have a different location for the front connection

also the 99(maybe other years) are double walled before the cat, uncle cut the cats off for use on a '55 Nomad project

Those of you who have removed the pre cats and installed headers, what happened when you went to emission testing?

I want to put on headers and right now Indiana or Florida do not have emission testing so I'm OK. I just wonder in case they start.
