Default Help with lowering the vette PLEASE

I just lowered the rear of my 98 coupe with no problem, BUT the front gave me a BIG problem. I tried to turn the bolts (10mm) but they would not move. The only thing that would fit on them was an open end 10mm wrench. When I tried to turn them, the wrench turned but the bolt did not, the wrench just stripped the bolt. I stopped after two tries on one side, did not want to screw anything up. Any advise would help. I did spray the bolt with some wd40 afterwords to let it sit and will try again later. What can I do?

You need to relieve pressure from the leaf spring. Take a jack and put a big socket on it....manuever it under the spring and jack it up to take the pressure off of the bolt. You will move the entire a-arm/car for a split second and then see the spring seperate from the a-arm. When that happens you should even be able to turn the bolt by hand.

I've heard this, too, but in my experience, even with my base springs, I can never get the spring to move off the control arm, even with the shock disconnected. I jack the spring using a small block of wood, and actually lift the car completely off the jack stand, and although the spring never leaves the control arm, it does relieve pressure enough to turn the screws.

BTW, use a 3/8" open-end wrench instead. It fits very snug. 10mm can be a little too loose.

I had the same problem with my 98 .I had a gap between the spring and pad , also soaked in oil for two days .The bolts were still rock tight .I had to remove the spring ,cut off the bolts ,and made pads out of rear bushings ."this was not to much fun" .It did turn out perfict .
The front lowered 1 full inch .Good luck SRS
