Default C5 Solid Roof Panel

Help!

I have a 2004 C5 Coupe that I purchased new and coming from England I was dumb struck with what I was getting for my bucks!

It came with a factory glass roof panel but down here in Florida when that summer sun gets sizzerling the A/C struggles to cope. I started out buying a pvc black static cling liner that was a complete waste of time. I then moved on to a insulated upholstered panel from a very main line Corvette distributor for about $80. That fits like a square peg in a round hole.

Can anyone advise me of the best place to purchase a solid panel roof. The factory part runs around $1400 and the Chevy dealer wants $350 to paint it in silver to match. If that’s what it takes to get a decent part fit for the job so be it but I guess a number of you guys out there would be able to advise me better…….

Any help greatly appreciated, and what I also want to know is how many of you guys (or gals) really appreciate what a great country you live in. Stop complaining about the gas prices……come to England and pay up to $8 a gallon.

PS..... I chose the big ears smilie because it reminds me of my future King (Prince Charles). I guess we will be the only Country to have handles on our coins!

For new, several of the Forum dealers here may have some of the best prices:

Fichtner Chevrolet
Parts Manager: Bob Wendorff
800-234-5284
E-Mail: parts@fichtnerchevrolet.com
Fichtner On-Line Catalog

Fred Beans Buick Pontiac GMC
Parts Manager: Gene Culley
610-495-1700
E-mail: gculley@fredbeans.com
http://www.fredbeans.com/

For used, watch the C5 Parts For Sale/Wanted section of the Forum. You also might give Gene's Kar Shop, also a Forum supporting vender, a try.

BTW, welcome to the Forum!

I was in the same boat as you... glass top only, too hot in summer, tried that lousy insert... then decided only a solid top would do.

So I kept watching the C5 parts section and withing a few weeks a solid top in my color came (navy blue metallic) up for sale. It had a very minor scratch on it (less than an inch long and hardly even noticable) and I bought it for $350 plus shipping. Makes a world of difference.

You may also post a WTB (want to buy) post over there... maybe you'll get lucky.

I bought mine's off a dude on e-bay. I was lucky to get on my body color. Sometimes it just easier to buy a top and paint it your body color. BTW, I paid around $550.

I love my glass roof. For the summers, I bought the static cling top from WCC
http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/ps-...top-shade.aspx
I am very impressed with the performance of it. I was stuck on I-15 last summer coming back from vegas and the HVAC unit indicated the outside air temp as 132 F. I was quite comfy inside the car with the cling on liner. Good luck finding a body color top.

You can usually find one here on the forum (C5 Parts for Sale) for anywhere from $400-600 - just keep an eye open for one your color. Or, just get one and have it painted. $350 for painting one seems a bit high though.
