I'd suggest Nitto 555's but then again I'm not a big tire guy. A few owners on here have mentioned Nitto 555's working pretty well.

There are several questions before anyone can make a recommendation........
  1. Do you want to retain runflat capability?
  2. Are you wanting to stay with the O.E.M. sizes?
  3. How much do you want to spend?
  4. Do you drive on wet roads, or cold weather?
  5. How much autocross do you do?

There are so many options that without knowing more information it's really impossible to make a recommendation.

If you want softer tires and better performance there's also BFG KDW's. They outperform the 555's in the wet and dry weather, but don't last as long."quoted from a nitto tire site" The Nitto NT-555RII Extreme R road race and auto cross competition radial tire was developed through a unique fusion between a race circuit oriented stiff sidewall construction and the popular Nitto Drag Radial tread pattern. These features combined with the high traction, specially formulated soft racing tread compound resulted in a competition radial that exhibits impressive control and handling, to provide maximum traction under severe racing conditions. The Nitto NT-555RII is designed primarily for competition road racing. The sidewall construction is optimized for handling extreme lateral acceleration; vehicles may experience rougher riding when used for daily driving.

Thansk for the responses.

To answer the questions

I do not wand to stay with the runflats
I do want to stay with the OEM size
The price I am not sure about but no more $350.00 each
I do drive in the rain a little and not in the cold at all.
During the summer month's I plan to race 6 to 10 weekends

OK, you're planning on doing a LOT of racing if you're planning on 6 to 10 weekends per year. You'll burn through at least one, maybe two, sets of racing tires in a season.

Just for consideration, maybe two wheel/tire packages: street and track? The runflats give you the peace of mind for daily driving and long trips. Special racing tires may be needed for your other requirements, considering that you'll likely burn through them in one season.

I love my Nittos - but if you autocross - I would consider other options

I agree with ArmyVette. 6 - 10 raacing weekends in one summer, you will wear out a set of street tires. If you are this serious, you need to find yourself a set of racing tires designed for the specific application. Aside from wearing out your street tires, you won't be happy with the adhesion that a set of street legal tires gives you.

For street tires in stock sizes, Goodyear GS-D3's are well thought of. There really are several other choices too - like the Michelin PS2, the BFG KDW in either the New Tread or Traditional Tread, and the Nitto 555. I'm sure that other folks will recommend what they have.

There's an ad running in some of the car mags right now, and I can't remember which tire company it's for - but it is accurate when it says to "dress appropriately", like you wouldn't wear a pair of handmade Italian leather loafers to play basketball. Get some autocross tires for that activity versus using your street tires.

Thanks for the information. I agree it does make sence to have two sets which is what all of the fast guys are doing. I am new to the sport so I was trying to keep cost down but it sounds like it may be cheaper to have two sets in the long run. This sport is so interesting I am learning how little skill I have and how much potiential these cars have. The sad part is for a considerable time tires aren't going to help that much. I need to learn to drive before this investment will pay off in some really fast times.

Try the GSD3's (there's a new set for the rear on the C5 Parts for Sale right now - $200). You will be very happy and they'll last at least a year based on what you're talking about. Great traction wet or dry (don't forget the SCCA runs in the rain!!) and a very comfortable tire.

Good luck... GUSTO
