I would check into chroming your existing wheels, or contact Bob at HOW and see if he has any OEM chromies in stock. The reproduction wheels are MUCH heavier than the OEM wheels. Heavier wheels make a big difference in high performance power and handling.

Stock wheels aren't forged though, are they? Usually the forged ones are lighter, but then again aftermarket ones are usually wider. I have some thin spoke repro 2Ks from House of Wheels that I was quite happy with, but while the outside looks fine, the inside barrel chrome looks like its starting to bubble. It appears now that some of these aftermarket wheels chromed overseas don't get the four step chroming process with copper/nickel underneath and so don't last as long. Rechroming around Houston looks to be about $200 a wheel for a good job.

Most of the OEM GM wheels are cast, although the 2001 Z06 wheels were forged. There shouldn't be any strength issues with cast wheels other than the clearly defective design of the 2001+ polished thinspokes. There is a current NTSB investigation on those wheels. Personally I have a set of OEM Z06 wheels that were chromed by HOW. I compared them to an exact replica set by Factory Reproductions at my local tire shop. My wheels were 11 pounds lighter at each wheel.
