I don't own a Z06, I have a convertible that consumes 1qt/500mi.
I would rather not have the engine tore down if any other remedy exists. I have been told by people in the GM business a car may never be the same (oil leaks etc) after being tore down. This may or may not be true, we are playing with probability odds here.
My dealer says additional damage may be caused by excessive oil use. He also mentioned the high amount of blow by gasses being generated.
I feel I should not have paid 50K for a defective product and that the defect may be causing latent failures.
On the other hand, if I were on a jury and GM offered to fix the problem versus forcing a buy back, I would side with GM.
I'm not sure I have much of a case forcing GM to buy back my car. If they don't fix the vehicle in a reasonable amount of time I can pursue the Lemon Law. I don't believe I can count the times the car has been to the shop for the oil consumption test.
The dealer is calling GM next week and I'll report back.

KevinVette -- maybe you should start a new thread in the C5 Tech forum. It seems you always hear about the 01 Z06 burning alot of oil, but if I'm not mistaken, didn't ALL the C5s have the same piston rings in 2001? If so, you would think that alot of other coupe and convertable owners who have the 6 speed would have similar issues. I know GM says it has alot to do with driving style, but I'm sure there are alot of coupe and convert guys who drive theirs hard too.

I was asked by service if I drove at high RPM's. I said no I keep it around 1500 RPMs. After all my car's not a Z06 
I think they assume if its a Z06 you drive hard and thats the cause of oil consumption. That is a false assumption. GM has a problem they need to fix.

I just noticed this thread, and although I haven't read it all, and have no particular opinion on it, I'ld like to point out that there are two of us who seem to be sharing a common name. I HAVE NO OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM!!!

My car was useing oil up to 5-6000mi. Now it burns 1qt in 2-3000mi acceptable to me. If you want to get a reaction from gm I would question if the car can pass emission testing if it's burning that much. Ric
