Column Lock Repair - Broke The Code
A couple of months ago when Chevy mailed out their confusing announcement of either fixing (or maybe not) the column lock on MN6s there were many reports of success with getting it disconnected and other reports of getting no help from their local Chevy house. I may have found the secret.
I took my '03 in to get the output shaft seals replaced under the tech bulletin (it was puking oil all over the rear end), I casually mentioned to the dealer that I had gotten a "pull key and wait" message and wanted the column lock disconnect done. The service guy said "no problem. I just have to write it up as a customer complaint and you're good to go." And I was.
So, since this isn't an actual "recall", just go to the dealer complain about the message and they do the job. And, OBTW, it works. No more column lock.
