Default color change???

Has anybody repainted their C5 another color? I'm interested to know about your experience. Where was it done? How much did it cost? Would you do it again? Is the result as good (or bad) as the original factory paint?

There's been a couple of guys on here lately posting pictures of C5's that were painted orange! Do a search and I'll bet you'll find them!

I know a guy who had his painted a Lamborghini-or however you spell it-Orange, I personally didn't really care for it, but he wins a first in something every car show he is in, everyone loves it. You can tell it is him from a couple blocks away! I suppose around 3 large for the paint job...

I would guess that a paint job like that would cost around $8K

well you could almost do as good a job with a roller and a brush compared to the factory job. They typically are not done very well.
As far as changing the color I say go for it but if you are sending it out to do expect to pay 10-12K for a very good job and no orange peel. If you want custom graphics or a custom blend expect to add another 8K to that.
IMO well worth it.
Understand that changing the color will require the car to be totally disassembled at least twice.

So, according to the pictures Mrkln's car was only disassembled once. I wonder how much the process cost him. It also must have taken a very long time...

As I recall, it was around $8K, but he did a lot of the labor himself, and had a friend do the paint for him, so that was a discounted price. As Iceburgh says, expect $10-$12K for a quality job done right.

If you don't care about resale value, it shouldn't be a problem. A repaint is a warning sign to a prospective buyer, even if you only painted the car because you preferred a different color.

Be warned, though, that you will NOT have the durability of the factory paint, either, because factory paints are baked on, thus, can withstand rock chips better. If you think your car chips now, wait 'til you see what happens with a non-baked paint job.
