I have a friend that can bid on this car at an up coming auction. It is a clean title with 85,269. By looking at the photos, how much do any of you think it will take max to repair?
keep in mind though that it will depend on where he gets his parts from. The highest prices will come from the dealership - cheaper prices will be by purchasing off of this Forum or from ebay - but couple examples - I've seen airbags on the form for 250 - 300 each; hoods will run 200 plus shipping on up to 800 from the dealer - hoods are hard to ship w/o damage;- looks like the inner fender on the pass side needs replacing - that will cost 285 at least; front bumper cover will be 200 - 300; the front impact bar needs replacing & frame will likely need pulling est cost of 500 - 1,000 for frame pull and front impact bar is about 275 plus impact absorber is 185??; probably figure on new radiator & A/C condensor; headlights are gonna be 400 - 500 EACH; looks like needs new skid bar, and expect to find more hidden damage
If he wants to take his time and hunt for parts here and on ebay, he can probably do it for 6 - 8K -
I wouldn't be afraid of it, but i'd get a parts manual and start checking prices on various parts before diving in w/o testing the water.

Why would anyone bother? Unless nobody else is at the auction, this car should bring- I really don't know, but lets say it's worth 5K for a parts car. Add that 6-8 K in parts (low IMHO- paint is thousands) and you have at least 12 into a very wrecked car. If you spent that money and the same amount of time working at McDonalds that you would be wrenching, you could buy a clean '97. "Doctor, the patient has expired."
Looks like the frame is bent on the passenger side (hatch popped up from a frontal impact)
that car has a clean title NOW, only because it is the one issued prior to the accident and total loss from their insurance co. it wont when it is reissued to the next guy.
Assuming he gets that car for 5-6k and fixes it for 8k more he'll have 13-14k in it if he's lucky if he shops he can get one for that price or another grand or two and enjoy it this summer not next!!! PART IT !!!!
I just finished a 99 with similar impact and did all the work except the paint myself. You can take your time and find all the parts you need for under $2000. My frame pull was under $400, and the paint under $4000. You have to decide if you are planning on keeping the car or selling. And the price you are going to purchase the car at. If your keeping and the original price is right I would say go for it. If you are planning on selling I would probably stay away. The higher miles, age, and the disclaimer will hurt re-sale.
Make sure you do your home work!!!
Good luck
Just let it go....trust me. I just did something like that and the body shop estimate was 31,000 and they didnt even have the ignition key to check anything. Say goodbye to that one. One last wave.
