Default PAinting Hubs

I saw in a couple of catalogs where you can buy brake hub covers for $250 Has anyone ever sanded and painted their hubs? And if so any special paint required? It would save me quite a bit of $

This rust bothers me and it's on both front hubs

hundreds of people have done this... use a wire wheel to remove the rust and then use some clear or silver VHT 1200 F paint.... do not use engine paint on the rotors,, 500 F wont work.... silver header paint works well...

Default Painting Rotors

Hey Guys,

I am also planning to do this.

I have lots of painting (and prep) experience - so I will take my time and do it right.

My question is: If this done correctly, how long does it last?...

Thanks,
Bob ~

If done correctly it should last the life of the rotors...

Now were talking I'll assume the same high temp. for the primer. Any recommendations on how to get a perfect circle around the hub so it doesn't look like square lines?

I used a spray can of Duplicolor black lacquer that I had in the garage and have no problems with the rotors. Having said that, I don't hammer the brakes too much either. I taped off the rotor hat first with 1/4" masking tape followed by regular tape and paper. Nice D.I.Y. project.

I can see all kinds of rust in the holes, slots and in the cooling vanes ..

Here is a picture of my rotors taken last week.. these rotors have 55,000 miles on them and they are five years old,.Car actually has 62,000 miles on it and is seven years old

This is Not an "In your face" post... it is mearly to show that anyone can have nice rotors, and this serves as some inspiration to those who want nice looking corners.

Gee Autoworker, Considering you don't have high-end rotors and a big money wheel/tire set up, your rusty vaned rotors and stock wheels look pretty good.

I did mine 3 years ago with Rustoleum and a foam brush and they still look great. Total cost for 4 hubs and calipers, less than $3.

They Do????
I wasn't bashing you I was just pointing out that the original poster was looking for a rust free rotor... spraying the vanes and the slots with clear VHT helps...
If I offended you, I apologize ... if you think they look pretty good, I only ask, compared to what????? If you are going to spend the time to mask off your rotors and paint the hats, why didn't you complete the job, My post was exactly to point that out... forget my wheels or tires .. my rotors have 55,000 miles on them.... they are five years old.
Drilled and slotted just like yours...
I am trying to offer help to the orginal poster...and show him how rotors can look... I pointed out the truh about your rotors, they are rusty and dirty looking...if you cant handle the truth, thats your problem..

Many C5 owners do not like the rust stains in the barrels of their wheels, many could care less... if you have nice rotors ( spent the money for bling rotors) they should look good... if the vanes are rusting, they bleed rust through the holes and this rust winds up on the wheel barrels.. if you protect the surfaces ( all of them... ) your wheels tires, rotors, wheel wells , corners will look better..

Its like a guy posting pictures of his New wheels... he just spent 3 grand on them and post a picture of them on his car and the wheel wells are full of mud...Ive seen this more times than I want to remember.

WOW Autoworker, your rotors look awesome, how do you do that , it must have taken a long time to make them look that good.. can you share your secrets with the rest of us.....

Feel better now...?????
I already apologized to you for ruffling your feathers... I also posted that this was not an "in your face post"... Your rotors left much to be desired and I used them to point out that dont just do the hats.. or you will wind up with rusty looking rotors and dirty looking barrels...just like yours.. even a blind man could see they needed help.
If you were bragging about your rotors in those pictures, I am humbled in your shadow...They are awesome...
