My 02 Z has 22000 miles makes about 400 at the wheels. Never abused, when I pull up my slightly inclined driveway and park in the garage I smell clutch, I need to feather the clutch a bit to negotiate the garage door opening. On the road I have tested it for slip, 3rd gear 4500 rpm floored no slip to redline, 4th gear same no slip. 1st and 2nd tires spin. Is this friction material smell normal for low speed slippage or should I get a new clutch package on the way?

You shouldn't smell eau de clutch under normal driving. Even at the drags if I am launching properly I don't smell the clutch.
I suspect you have identified the problem...slipping (your "feathering") the clutch while dealing with the garage door. Recommend you switch to using the brake while the door is raising.
Eau de clutch is the friction material on the roating disc and pressure plate being expressed as an aerosol. That means excessive short term wear.
Thank you Ranger,
I felt it was my technique, all the worn clutches I have experienced in my past would not hold (rpm flair) at the car's torque peak in a higher gear. Has this been your experience also?
Not to steal the thread but is it ok for the clutch if you let the gas out completely and just use the clutch to move foward without your foot on the gas?

My two C5Z were near stock, just CAI.
I got about 175 passes from each clutch. On replacement I inspected the the moving parts of the clutch and found very even wear. They never slipped and my pedal on the 2002 was always normal.
As you increase power, the clutch takes most stress on launch and strong shifts.
So when it's time to replace yours, suggest going with an aftermarket clutch. Which one? Everyone has an opinion. It all depends on your priorities.

So long as the clutch is all the way out or all the way in, you are fine.
It is the slipping of the clutch (e.g. partial engagement while hitting the throttle) that increases wear.
