Default Another mod in the can...

I'll admit it. I've been very conservative so far when it comes to mods. Exhaust plate, Window Valet (I knew I was forgetting something!) Z06 Ti exhaust (just last week) and that's been about it. Now, I-Pod.

Once I had the plastic bezel out, it was sure tempting to paint it silver or something...

I've got a couple of Girl In A Box cupholders to provide "on demand" space for the refreshments.

Wal-Mart $2.68. I bought one for our upcoming bike trip.

They had black also, but did not see silver.

Very cool. Can you provide some detailed instructions on how you hooked it up?

TIA,
Larry

Happy to. I was pretty lost for awhile. My '02 is apparently a "transitional" model. I say this because there are two connectors under my passenger footwell kick panel that must have been introduced sometime during the model year. Earlier C5's do not have these connector plugs, I'm told. The easiest way to connect the Ipod2car adapter is to tap into these footwell connectors if your car did NOT come with the factory CD changer, OR simply connect it where the factory CD changer goes in the trunk center compartment. My car did not come with a factory changer, so I needed a special adapter cable to go along with the IPod2car device.

I ran into a s$%T load of confusion for awhile, because I was expecting the vendor to send me the COR-HAR cable, which is the cable that plugs into those footwell connectors that would ordinarily go back to the trunk. But they sent me something completely different, and it took me awhile to understand that it is the cable meant for '97-'02 C5's that connects to directly to the back of the stock head unit, which of course, required me to pull the console and remove the radio and HVAC to install the connectors. This was a lot more of a PIA than the passenger floor connector route would have been with the COR-HAR, but I just wanted to be done with it. It was a lot easier than I feared and there was a perfect spot behind the HVAC controls to stash the Ipod2car adapter box.

Here is an excellent link to an article written by someone else that details EXACTLY what I had in my hands to work with this morning.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...8&postcount=37

It also explains how everything is connected.

While I had the center console out, I cut out a slot on the back bottom corner of the cup holder, in order to shove the docking cable through it. There's more info in the audio forum, but the sound quality is phenominal and the I-pod powers on and off with the head unit. There is a vendor who is marketing ipod docking stations that fit neatly within the C5 stock cup holder. Another forum member, Larry W has the prototype and it's very cool. The I-pod sits upright in the dock and he can close the cupholder lid to completely conceal the dock when he's out of the car. I'm going to get one of these next.

Hope this helps.

That looks really good, man, but I think I've pretty much decided to go with one of these:

It looks like it would make removal and replacement a breeze.

I like the idea of taking is slow and doing one mod at a time, helps slake mod fever down to a managable pitch!
