Mine has done the same thing and I've never been able to completely fix it. I have however adjusted it some by taking off that little cover next to the ignition (I believe it's a temp. sensor) and taking out that screw. With the screw out, push the console over and tighten it back down. That helped with about 1/2 the gap, but no more than that. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a better fix!

Mine looked like that the day I bought it new. Go to the vettessentials website for instructions on how to take the console out. Just loosen it and you'll see there are 2 serrated tabs on the top of it. They are supposed to hold onto the dash pad, but don't. I cut a couple of 1" squares out of some rubber mat. Tuck the squares between the radio and the tabs to keep them tight. My console has been good for 2 years and 24,000 miles now.
Aw, bummer.....Mine does not look at all like that, everthing fits on my 98. However, I have to pull the console soon to change out the HVAC control head [ dreaded display death]. I will take a look at how those tabs fit and consider rubber shims as a way to MAKE SURE that the console always stays where it should.
Good luck on re-aligning it, and also kudos on the tips on how-to from the responding posters.
The gap should not be that big. Unbolt your armrest (waterfall too if a vert) and slide the armrest back as far as it will go. Unbolt the 3 screws which hold the radio bezel on. Then start playing with it. There is a small tab near the horizontal part which is most likely causing the poor fit. Move it around until everything fits. The tabs which hold the top in are pretty tiny and won't work if you don't have it aligned properly.
I noticed a big gap the last time I had the console out, but only when I was in the passenger seat. I was able to eliminate it the next time I took it out and paid better attention to how it went back in. Before you put in all together, check out the view from both seats to make sure it is good.
